Good morning Kim and everyone else!
I think this topic is one that will always be a part of any recovery conversations as this is something that is near and dear to our hearts. I can only speak from my experience in the past working with a lot of women and men who are trying to get and stay clean. I have watched so many of these people begin to drink and say that they can handle it because they never had a problem with it. These same people I have seen eventually go back to their former drug of choice and spiral one more time out of control. The obsession to blot out our reality through any kind of mood altering drug or alcohol is the problem and in my opinion........and that is worth about 2 cents.........anyone who has had a history of drug use and problems with that.......cannot successfully drink alcohol.
Kim, I admire and respect your honesty and appreciate you sharing your experience with us here. It sounds like you are really learning not only from your experience; but also from doing group. That is the goal. I have said time and again that the group is not only for women to grow and change (members) but also for facilitators to grow right along with them. My learning curve is still there and I have many teachers in my path. I learned so much about myself from working with women in the group and I still do. Thanks for your honesty.
I love these conversations and as I said, even though this post was from quite a while ago......it is still an ongoing theme working with the women in group and the people I work with in recovery. Everyone has an experience and everyone has a story. I am in no way saying that the way I do things is the only way but just sharing my experience. I have learned that if I want any kind of credibility I have to walk the same path I am talking about. The women can spot a fake or a liar from a mile away. Thanks for everyone sharing here. I love the posts. Take care, Judy
